STANDARD INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
PLEASE CONTACT US PRIOR TO ANY ALTERATIONS MADE TO AVOID UNNECESSARY COSTLY CHARGES
In order for us to install your fire surround correctly, the following points are required prior to our visit;
- Existing surround and hearth should be removed
- Installation is to a prepared square, central opening of non-combustible material.
WE WILL PROVIDE MEASURMENTS - Fireplaces are extremely heavy and require a solid brick or concrete wall to be attached to. Thermolite blocks, stud work, metal or wood are not considered suitable.
- Contrary to popular belief plasterboard is only a fire retardant and is not fireproof. Therefore if plasterboard is to be used on the chimney breast it must not come within 200mm of the opening. This should be filled with solid cement render on the sides and top of the opening. Where plasterboard is used it should be solidly bonded with board bond to prevent boards from flexing
- Wall plaster made good. No wallpaper. It is advisable to put on a base coat of paint only, prior to the surround being installed, followed by a top coat when the surround has had a few days to dry out.
- If the aperture is to be lined with bricks prior to installation the brick and lintel must come through in line with the finished plaster.
- Work quoted is for the installation of fireplace only and does not cover carpentry, carpet laying, plastering, decoration, gas or electrical work.
- Water and electricity is to be provided on site. If either is not available we must be informed prior to our visit. Should work be delayed through lack of these services an additional charge may be occurred if a further fitting day is required to finish the work.
- Furniture should be removed/sheeted down and work area cleared.
- Skirting boards, paneling and dado rails should be removed. The chimney breast should be free from any wood trim etc.
- Gas connection must be disconnected by a gas registered engineer prior to our installation.
- Chamber to have a tapered gather to a 12" flue
- There must 125mm thick concrete sub-hearth and inner hearth that is level with the finished floor.
Please contact us for advice if you are intending to have a wooden floor. - The surround will not affect the fires performance and it is therefore important to ensure that the chimney flue draws correctly before placing an order.
- The room must be ventilated to meet current building regulations.
- Damage to the fireplace through ground settlement/house movement is the owner's responsibility.
- If a third party builder is to do the preparation work it is the third-party/homeowners responsibility to make sure that the work is carried out to the tolerances provided. Whilst every endeavor will be made by us to install the surround an additional charge maybe incurred if resulting alterations prevent the fireplace from being fitted on the agreed installation day.
- Changes to a fireplace usually require building control approval. Any necessary applications are the home owner's responsibility.
Please do not hesitate in contacting us should you require any additional information on the above points.
